Mark Liston is an associate at Malmfeldt Law Group. He is a commercial litigator with an emphasis on shareholder derivative, securities class action, and consumer class action cases. Over his 12 years of practice, Mr. Liston has handled litigations in a variety of areas including insurance fraud claims and adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court. He also has significant trial experience in federal and state courts.
One of the trials that Mr. Liston handled was in connection with an adversary proceeding in bankruptcy court brought on behalf of a client that had been defrauded by the debtor. Mr. Liston proved at trial that the debtor had made false representations in his bankruptcy filings and proceedings, resulting in denial of the debtor’s discharge. In a subsequent state court proceeding against the debtor, Mr. Liston obtained a significant money judgment on behalf of his client.
Among his professional activities, Mr. Liston co-authored a chapter of Research Handbook on Securities Regulation in the United States (Jerry W. Markham & Rigers Gjyshi eds., 2014) relating to private rights of action available under United States securities laws.
Mr. Liston has a B.A. in English Literature from Purdue University (2005), where he graduated with distinction, and a J.D. cum laude from Indiana University Maurer School of Law (2009). He served as an editor on the Indiana Law Journal and was awarded the highest grade (the A Star) in three of his courses.
Mr. Liston is admitted to practice in Illinois and is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
